I want to write an angry open letter to all the Governors and Premiers who are trying to turn away Syrian refugees right now. I want to call them what they are: cowards.
Any craven fool can hurt somebody who is weaker than them. That's easy. Whether lobbing bombs from the safety of aircraft high above the ground, or kicking someone in the ribs when they're already down, it involves no risk and requires no courage.
What takes courage is to help somebody. To lift them up knowing that they might drag you down. To take someone under your wing knowing that they might repay you with a knife in the back.
These tough-guy blowhards are content to visit untold misery upon the people of the Middle East in the name of their "War on Terror". But when presented with a chance to do their share, to help take the wind out of ISIL's sails by taking in Syrian refugees, albeit at the cost of an unspeakably tiny risk to their own safety, did they step up to the plate? Not a chance in hell.
They're fucking cowards.
